INSS Retirement Gets Stricter in 2026; See What Changes – Migalhas
Tempo de Leitura: < 1 minute

Retirement through the INSS (Brazilian Social Security Institute) will become stricter in 2026, with an increase in the minimum age and points, due to the transition rules of the Social Security reform. The changes mainly affect those who are close to retiring but have not yet met all the current requirements.

    Minimum Age and Points

In 2026, those retiring by minimum age will need to have:

    • 63 years and 6 months for women
    • 65 years for men

For retirement by points, the sum of age and contribution time must be:

    • 91 points for women
    • 101 points for men

Both cases require at least 15 years of contribution.

The transition rules increase one year in the sum of age and contribution time each year until 2028. For the minimum age, the increase is six months annually until 2031, when women must also be 65 years old.

    Transition of Retirement by Toll

Other transition rules include retirement by a 50% toll, for those who were up to two years away from retiring when the 2019 reform came into effect. This group must fulfill the remaining contribution time plus an additional 50% of this period.

The 100% toll rule requires fulfilling double the time that was missing for retirement in 2019, in addition to a minimum age of:

    • 57 years for women
    • 60 years for men

    Acquired Right

It is important to note that those who have already met the requirements to retire in 2025, according to the rules in force at the time, have the acquired right to retire based on those conditions, even if the new criteria of 2026 are more rigorous. To check the contribution time and age, workers can access the Meu INSS application or website.
